DAY 0

Arrival in Moshi

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by a Frontline Safari Tanzania representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your mountain guide in the evening for a detailed briefing covering the Machame Route, equipment preparation, safety procedures, and tips for acclimatization. This ensures a smooth and confident start to your climb the next day.

DAY 1

Machame Gate to Machame Camp

After breakfast, transfer to Machame Gate for registration and begin trekking through dense rainforest. The trail gradually ascends, passing waterfalls, giant ferns, and colobus monkeys. Trekking approximately 11 km (6–7 hours), you arrive at Machame Camp at 3,000 meters. Settle in for your first night on the mountain, enjoying dinner prepared by your mountain crew.

DAY 2

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Trek through the upper rainforest into the moorland zone, with dramatic views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. The trail ascends steadily, passing giant heathers and endemic flora. Reach Shira Camp at 3,840 meters for overnight stay. This day helps your body adjust to higher altitude while offering panoramic views and stunning photo opportunities.

DAY 3

Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Cross the Shira Plateau, approaching Lava Tower at 4,630 meters for acclimatization. After lunch, descend gradually to Barranco Camp at 3,950 meters. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps reduce altitude sickness risk. The Barranco Wall provides a short technical scramble before reaching camp, rewarding trekkers with breathtaking scenery.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Begin the day by climbing the Barranco Wall, then descend into the Karanga Valley. Trek through rugged terrain surrounded by Mawenzi Peak’s dramatic cliffs. Reach Karanga Camp at 4,000 meters and enjoy dinner while resting and preparing for the summit push. This route combines scenic diversity with gentle acclimatization, enhancing the chances of summit success.

Day 5

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Trek to Barafu Camp at 4,600 meters, the final base before the summit. Arrive in the afternoon, rest, hydrate, and have an early dinner. Prepare your gear for the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak, ensuring proper clothing, headlamps, and trekking poles are ready. Short sleep at Barafu is critical for conserving energy for the challenging summit night.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Trek to Barafu Camp at 4,600 meters in preparation for the midnight summit climb. Around midnight, begin your ascent under the stars to Gilman’s Point and onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After sunrise and photos, descend to Barafu for a short break and continue to Mweka Camp at 3,100 meters for overnight recovery.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, signing out with your official summit certificate. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved shower and celebration. Reflect on the extraordinary journey, having safely conquered Kilimanjaro via the scenic and rewarding Machame Route.
