Overview

The 3 Days Mount Meru Trek is a challenging and rewarding climb on Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest mountain. Located within Arusha National Park, the trek offers spectacular scenery, wildlife encounters, and dramatic volcanic landscapes. Climbers hike through forest, moorland, and alpine zones before reaching Socialist Peak at sunrise, enjoying incredible views of nearby Mount Kilimanjaro.

Trek Itinerary

DAY 0

Arrival in Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport where a Frontline Safari Tanzania representative welcomes you and transfers you to your lodge in Arusha. In the evening, meet your mountain guide for a detailed briefing about the Mount Meru trek, equipment inspection, and safety preparation for the adventure beginning the next day.

DAY 1

Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

After breakfast, drive to Umbwe Gate for registration before beginning your trek through dense rainforest. The trail climbs steeply along narrow ridges and lush forest paths. After about 5–6 hours of trekking, arrive at Umbwe Cave Camp at approximately 2,850 meters where you enjoy dinner and rest surrounded by the sounds of the forest.

DAY 2

Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Continue trekking through montane forest and moorland landscapes toward Saddle Hut at 3,570 meters. Along the way, enjoy impressive views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone. The hike takes about 3–5 hours, leaving time in the afternoon for a short acclimatization walk to Little Meru before returning to the hut for dinner and rest.

DAY 3

Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak – Momella Gate

Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a rewarding scramble with breathtaking views. Continue trekking across ridges and valleys toward Barafu Camp at 4,600 meters. Arrive in the afternoon, rest, and prepare your equipment for the midnight summit attempt with an early dinner and briefing from your guides.
